I noticed your Black Cochin was missing a patch of feathers on her back. What an unfortunate time to molt
@parade15456 I have two black hens – Black Cochin. They have feathered feet and are actually quite large. The other hens are Speckled Sussex. They’re also full-size birds and are great layers.
what breed is the black one @ :24 and the speckled one @ :28? We got three chicks that were dropped off over night at the horse rescue down the street from me and they all three looke just like this. we thought that they were just bantam mixes
@Allen2045 my chickens are actually illegal… the city really doesn’t bother unless they get a complaint from a neighbor, so I’m keeping my neighbors happy with free eggs.
I wish we could have a chicken coup. The city says your not zoned for it. They wont raid the crack houses but people with chicken coups they would.
@camillecat They cluck a LOT in the morning when they lay eggs, but they’re no louder than a small dog. They’re completely quiet during the rest of the day… you wouldn’t even know they’re there. And as soon as the sun goes down, the file up their ramp and into their coop to go to sleep for the night.
Hooray for urban chickens! Do they cluck a lot? What are their names?? They are gorgeous!
we missed you at yoga. i cried.
( kidding. . . but totally excited to meet you when you do make it! hope you are having a great sunday!!! xo
Guess they are tough chicks
I hooked them up with a heat lamp that they ignore all day and instead hang out in the cold
They’re very cute… they dig big holes to get to the grass and worms underneath. They make a mess of the garden, but I let them get away with it in winter.
Livestock is bred to withstand extreme (natural) conditions. Heat and cold tend not to bother them… but I’m a big softy and installed a heat lamp in their coop anyway
This is first time for me to see chickens running around in snow! They’re awesome! Just like you and your family
This makes me remember my sister-in-law’s chickens! I hope they are okay like yours.
I wonder if they would have more fun in snow if you made snow tunnels? Could be a fun project at least!!
Wow didnt know chickens were down with the cold. I thought youd have to give them some heat to keep em happy.
You are the beeeeesssttt!!!! You, your fam and your chickens RULE!!!! Huge hug! Tara
for now, they’re for eggs only.
if they start getting bi-otchy, I can make no such guarantees.
and they’re very cute. I cuddle them against their will all the time.
These are for eggs only right?
They are cute.
Is that ok for a meat cutter by trade to say?
