Why would you want to learn the art of canning and preserving your own food? Because you can save money canning food yourself for one thing. Probably the most important reason to can and preserve food yourself is that you know first hand the ingredients that are going into your food.
Today the news seems to be filled with some outbreak of contaminates in or on our foods. Meats and vegetables alike are continually being recalled for one reason or another. We as consumers don’t know what pesticides were used on the produce we purchase. Nor do we know how and where many of the foods we buy at the grocery store were processed. This leaves us with great concern about the products we are bringing into our homes and eating.
