The other day I was talking with my mom about how I want to get my own little piece of land, build a straw bale house, barn, have gardens, chickens and maybe goats.  She loved the idea, but also reminded me that talking about something and actually doing it is two completely different things.

I really have had to stop and think about what I am cut out to do at this point in my life.  It really requires a new way of thinking.

Right now it is snowing outside and cold.  I am sitting in a warm house, with hot coffee, I have a podcast going in the background while I am writing this as well as the TV on mute watching something about asteroids.

If I was already in the country, I would most likely already have had to get up and make sure any animals were taken care of and fed, watered and not freezing long before I thought about my own cup of coffee.

And it got me to thinking…do I really want to do this?  Do I really want this change to a simpler way of life?  And what exactly does that mean?

It is easy to dream about getting away from the city, living off the land and being self-sufficient, growing my own food, etc.  I really have had to analyze my goals.

I’m ready.

So now what?

Well, it is about getting educated and taking action.  I actually have been reading books and websites on how to homestead, reading forums, and watching videos.  The last few years, I have had a garden in the city, so I am already somewhat familiar with what is involved with that.

I am also trying to start a few small businesses online that I will eventually link too that hopefully can help me to earn enough to buy land with cash.  Right now, I have no funds, but I am hoping to change that soon enough.

In the meantime, I am educating myself, picking up books that I want to have on hand, and looking at specific areas that I will be moving too in the next few months.

The excitement is building.  I can hardly wait!
